S013095 "FÜHRERHAUPTQUARTIER" PERSONNEL'S CUFFTITLE. (Führerhauptquartier Ärmelstreiffen)

BACKGROUND: The Führerhauptquartier, (Führer Headquarters), cufftitle was originally introduced prior to the outbreak of WWII and was intended for wear by personnel who served in the Führerbegleitbataillon, (Führer Escort Battalion), in a security capacity at Hitler’s assorted headquarters. Hitler had no fewer then ten headquarters during the war that included his armored train, "Amerika", the Felsennest in Rodert Bad Munstereifel Germany, the Wolfsschlucht, (Wolf’s Ravine), in Givet Belgium, the Adlerhorst, (Eagle’s Nest), in the Taunus mountains in Germany, the Wolfsschanze (Wolf’s Lair), near Rastenburg in East Prussia the Berghof in Berchtesgaden Germany and the Reichschancellery in Berlin. Personnel serving with the Führerbegleitbataillon were specially selected from elite units and the battalion was commanded by Generalmajor Erwin Rommel for a short time early in the war. Originally the Führerhauptquartier cufftitle was manufactured with a black base and golden yellow Gothic script until regulations of January 15TH 1941 introduced a second pattern with silver Sütterlin style script. The second pattern cufftitle was utilized for the duration of the war. Of Note: There was no differentiation between EM/NCO and Officer ranks cufftitles.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Nice quality, black doeskin wool construction, second pattern, cufftitle with hand embroidered Sütterlin style script, "Führerhauptquartier", in bright, silver/aluminum wire threads. The cufftitle is bordered at both the top and bottom edges in a bright silver/aluminum Russian braid. The reverse of the cufftitle is the typical opened back type with a loosely handstitched horizontal seam to the center. The cufftitle is in overall excellent, unissued condition with minimal age toning and the silver/aluminum embroidery and the Russian braid trim are all still clean and bright. Scarce cufftitle.
