S011094 “LEIBST. SS ADOLF HITLER” BARRACKS HANGER

BACKGROUND: As with any nation’s military the Germans had garrisons and barracks to house and care for its troops when they were not in the field. Each soldier was outfitted with a clothing and equipment locker and there were prescribed regulations regarding which items were to be placed within the locker. The soldier’s standard issue clothing items included different forms of dress and prior to the war each soldier would have been issued two M35 dress tunics and up to four field blouses along with drill/work tunics and sports clothes. In order to maintain some of the clothing items clothes hangers were required.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A 42cm long, x 11cm tall lathed natural softwood clothes hanger with steel fittings. The hanger features a downwardly curved, horizontal, wooden, main hanging arm with a central, vertically extended steel wire hanging hook to the top edge. One side of the top arm has impressed blackened script, "Leibs. SS Adolf Hitler”.
