N073678 NSKOV SIGN.
(Schild)BACKGROUND: The N.S.K.O.V., "National Sozialistische Kriegsopferversorung" (National Socialist War-disabled-support [Organization]), was formed in 1930 and institutionalized in 1933, as an associated society assisting N.S.D.A.P. party members who had become disabled as a result of war injuries.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A 18 1/4" x 26 7/8" metal sign with white borders to a red field with a white disk to it. Upon the disk is the N.S.K.O.V. logo of a mobile swastika to the center of an Iron Cross against a wreathed, vertical sword. No evidence of the swastika presently remains, as it was, undoubtedly, deliberately defaced. Underneath the disk and logo is, in black, "National-Sozialistische Kriegsopferversorgung" and "Kameradschaft Goisern" (Comradeship or Service-club Goisern). "C.Robert Dold, Offenberg i.B." is printed to the lower right white border. Moderate surface spotting may be seen to its blackened reverse. Aside from the aforementioned defacing of the swastika, there is noticeable wear, and surface spotting, to all four corners, and along the white border to the left of the sign. Typical age soiling and surface scratching is also evident, particularly over the hilt of the sword and some of the letters.
