N061291 DJ SHOULDER STRAP. (Schulterklappe)

BACKGROUND: The DJ, "Deutsche Jungvolk" (German Youth), originated in Vienna, Austria, in 1929, and was eventually to become the young branch of the HJ - for boys from 10 to 14 years old.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A second pattern DJ, "Deutsche Jugend" (German Youth), shoulder strap, of black rayon with a black wool base, 2.5cm wide and 11cm long, coming to a point with a buttonhole. Sewn to its obverse, in white, are the machine-woven (as opposed to the first pattern chain-stitched) "Bann" numerals "539." These often followed the numbers of an Army regiment raised in the same area.
