N047263 "DRL LEHRWART" BADGE. (Abzeichen )

BACKGROUND: Physical fitness was a prime concern of the Germans to maintain well being and overall good health of the population in general and more specifically to the NSDAP, National Sozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, (National Socialist German Worker’s Party), with their ideology of the superiority of the Aryan race. The DRL, "Deutschen Reichsbundes für Leibesübungen" (German State-league for Physical-training), incorporated the NSRL, "National Sozialistische Reichsbund für Leibesübungen" (National Socialist State-league for Physical-training), into it in 1938. The original NSRL emblem, being a national eagle with down-swept wings and a mobile swastika superimposed on its breast, was a carried over to the DRL.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A machine woven 7cm square black rayon base, with celluloid center, is machine embroidered in silver-colored threads, an eagle with down-swept wings and a black, mobile swastika to its breast, with "Lehr" beneath one talon, and "Wart" beneath the other which signified an Instructor for the DRL. There is some light fading to the background, but overall a very nice example.    (Ex Philippe Gillain Collection)
