BACKGROUND: The DJ, "Deutsche Jungvolk" (German Youth), originated in Vienna, Austria, in 1929, and was eventually to become the young branch of the HJ - for boys from 10 to 14 years old.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A first pattern DJ, "Deutsche Jugend" (German Youth), shoulder strap, of black wool, 2.2cm wide and 10cm long, coming to a point with a buttonhole. Sewn to its obverse, in white, chain stitched "Bann" numerals "107". These often followed the numbers of an Army regiment raised in the same area.
