N045390 1934 LABOR DAY BADGE. (Arbeitstag Abzeichen)

BACKGROUND: As was common at the time any group or organization holding an event would normally produce a badge or lapel pin to commemorative the event. These badges/lapel pins would be worn by participants, or given away or sold to promote the event or raise funds as required.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Hollow struck, bronzed alloy badge featuring a disembodied male head above the national eagle and swastika, with "19" and "34" to either side of the swastika, and a hammer to the left with a sickle to the right. The implements represent farm and industry. "Tag der Arbeit" (Day of Labor) arches along the top. The initials "RK," no doubt the designer’s, may be seen alongside the base of the sickle. A horizontal pin-back device is soldered to its reverse. Embossed along the base of the reverse is "Reichverbang Peorzeim 26."
