BACKGROUND: The "Deutsches Frauenwerk" (German Women’s-welfare-organization) was established in September 1933, eventually being absorbed into the "NS Frauenschaft" (National Socialist Women’s-organization). Members were issued lapel badges to distinguish them, this example being a first pattern members’ badge for non-NSDAP personnel.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Alloy badge takes the form of a 32mm tall inverted triangle whose top edge is 28mm wide. It features a black enameled central field, edged in silver, upon which is a silver washed mobile sunwheel swastika above a "Leben-rune" (Life-rune). The top silvered edge of the badge is wider than the sides and features the red enameled Gothic script, "Deutsches Frauenwerk." To the reverse, to either side of its vertical pin-back device, is an embossed RZM logo and an "M1/34" manufacturer’s code for "Karl Wurster".
