N044990 BDM PROFICIENCY CLASP IN BRONZE. (Bund Deutscher Mädel Leistungsabzeichen)

BACKGROUND: Instituted on April 28th 1934 and awarded to girls between 14 and 21 years of age. The criteria was to have successfully passed tests in athletics, political ideology, nursing, first aid and home making. Clasp was worn over the left breast of the BDM uniform. Approximately 115,000 Bronze examples where issued and an unknown number of silver.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Approximately 23mm x 14mm, brass letters "BDM" within a rectangular box. The insignia is mounted over a orange and white ribbon. RZM marked. Pin back is missing.
