N034290 DRL SPORTS BADGE, FOR WAR WOUNDED. (Deutsches Reichsabzeichen für Leibesübungen)

BACKGROUND: Established on Nov 18th 1942. This 4th class version was awarded to disabled soldiers who managed to obtain a level of proficiency in spite of there physical condition. Identical to the 1937 version except the wreath is in gold and the DRL logo is in silver. Only 10,000 examples were awarded by March of 1945.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: The badge is in the form of a 50mm tall, vertical oval oak leaf wreath, with a mobile swastika and bow to its base, encompassing the stylized, cut-out letters, "DRL." To the reverse is a vertical pin-back device, hinged to its top and with a catch to its base. Embossed to the left of the reverse is "D.R.G.M. 35269" ("Deutsche Reichs Gebrauchsmuster," or, German National Registered-design [Patent] 35269), and "Wernstein Jena" is to the right. Hard version to find, they don't turn up very often.
