N032690 NSDAP NATIONAL YOUTH SPORTS BADGE. (Reichsjugendsportabzeichen Aufschlagnadel)
BACKGROUND: The DRA, "Deutsches Reichssportabzeichen" (German National-sport-badge), established the RJA, "Reichsjugendsportabzeichen" (National-youth-sport-badge) in 1925 for children under the age of 18. Awarded only in silver, it was extended to females in 1928, and a swastika was added to the badge in 1937. The award was discontinued in 1942.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Silver-washed lapel pin in the form of a 15mm diameter oak leaf wreath with a mobile swastika to its base, encircling the stylized letters "RJA" upon a plain, convex background. To its reverse is embossed the manufacturer’s name and location, "Wernstein Jena". Complete with original pin-back device. Superb example.
