BACKGROUND: The DLRG, Deutschen Lebensrettungsgesellschaft, (German Live Saving Association), was originally established in 1913 as an independent organization of the German Swimming League. The mandate of the DLRG was to instruct the German public in water safety and water related life saving skills and techniques.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A badge for the DLRG, "Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gemeinschaft" (German Life-Saving-Association), in the form of a fire gilted alloy horizontal oval, 55mm across ". The central image is of a profiled eagle fanning its wings atop a rock with the sea in the background. "DLRG" is to the left of the eagle, immediately above the waves. Complete pin and catch assembly. Maker marked to Assmann. Scarce.
