N025591 NSDAP POLITICAL MESS KIT. (Kochgeschirr) 

The standard, two-piece, aluminum construction, kidney-shaped mess kit, painted black and with a removable cover which also serves as a plate or frying pan. The kidney-shaped, aluminum cover, which has a stepped bottom and a raised lip around its edge, has triply-riveted to it a hinged, fold-back handle which vertically descends the full height of the mess kit and then wraps under its base. An RZM, "Reichszeugmeisterei" (National-material-control-office), logo, underneath of which is a manufacturer’s code impressed to the mount of the cover’s fold-back handle. With the cover off, the handle extends horizontally. Near the end of this handle are raised horizontal and vertical strap retaining loops. The mess kit body has, to its front, four, small, evenly spaced, horizontal indentations, indicating 1/2 liter measures. Its back scallops inwards, corresponding to the outline of its cover. Each upper side of the mess kit body has a doubly riveted, aluminum carrying handle mount, each with a loop which secures either end of a swiveling wire handle. Mess kit retains about 95% of its original paint. Nice example.
