N025587 SS-ALLACH PORCELAIN STAG.
BACKGROUND:
In March 1942 the SS-WVHA, SS-Wirtschafts und Verwaltungs Hauptamt, (SS-Economic and Administration Department), was formed by consolidating three earlier administrative, finance, building and concentration camp inspectorate departments into one larger department that was responsible for all administrative and economic commerce and concerns for all of the SS. The SS-WVHA was subdivided into five distinct departmental groups with Amtsgruppe W being the sole authority for all economic enterprises within the SS. The SS economic enterprises were widely varied and encompassed an expansive amount of different manufacturing plants, agriculture, stone quarries and products ranging from soft drinks to furniture. By 1944 the SS controlled over five hundred assorted factories and utilized cheap concentration camp laborers to man them. One of the most renown SS owned factories was the pottery and porcelain works in Allach which produced a wide range of very nice quality, attractive porcelain and ceramic items. The SS purchased the Allach porcelain works in 1936 with the view of producing high quality art items and hopefully raising the cultural taste of the masses. Under the control of SS-Oberführer Dr. Karl Diebitsch the Allach works was able to recruit the finest artists, designers and potters within greater Germany. Business was so successful that in 1937 the Allach works expanded and opened a secondary branch at the Dachau concentration camp and eventually a third outlet in Bohemia. It is believed that roughly half of the pieces created by the Allach works were commissioned by the SS to be bestowed as presentation items for a wide variety of events and functions. The presentation items produced by the Allach works were conferred to many of the assorted NSDAP organizations. As physical fitness was a prime concern to all of the NSDAP organizations numerous sports festivals and rallies were held with assorted prizes and awards for the victors including many presentation pieces from Allach.DESCRIPTION: A roughly 8cm x 9cm x 5cm Allach Deer.
