N024085 S.A. GRUPPE "Berlin-Brandenburg" EM/NCO'S SERVICE KEPI. (S.A.-Dienstmütze)

BACKGROUND: Originally, members of the fledgling S.A. had no official headgear, and most wore a grey, Austrian-style ski cap until the introduction of the soft kepi in 1924. It was modified in 1929, taking, effectively, its final "coffee can" form. After 1933, the colored tops which had hitherto been reserved for S.A. leaders were extended to all ranks.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: SA NCO/EM (SA MANN) Kepi with the brown khaki base/top cover and black upper section color, "button"= silver for SA Gruppe "Berlin-Brandenburg". M1929 pattern eagle to the front. Nice tan body with black wool side. Double ventilation grommets. Original chinstrap. Couple of post war Polish stamps to the interior, probably from use in a film studio after the war. Leather sweatband is original but is missing about a 10cm section. Roughly a size 55.
