N020964 REMEMBRANCE CARD. (Erinnerungskarten)
BACKGROUND: A common practice in Europe that continues to this day, is the issue of a remembrance card on the death of a family member. These would be distributed to friends and family as a memorial item.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly, 7cm x 12cm, double sided, single sheet remembrance card with printed script and a close-up, black and white photograph of a young cavalry, "Oberleutnant in Einem Grenadier-Regiment" or "Lieutenant in the Infantry Regiment" wearing a field-grey visor cap and service tunic. The visible uniform details include the cap insignia, shoulder boards and collar tabs. The script indicates he was the "Owner of several insignia’ and was "Born on 6 June 1913 and died August 1944 area of Suwalki (Lithuania) a Hero." The card is in overall good condition with light age yellowing.
