An alloy badge, roughly in the form of a shield with an eagle clutching a wreathed, mobile swastika in its talons to the top. The image beneath the eagle is that of the bow of a large ship about to be launched from its dry dock. Along the border of the badge is embossed, "Der Führer Am 1. April 1939 In Wilhelmshaven" (The Leader On-the 1st April 1939 In Wilhelmshaven). This is in reference to Hitler’s participation in the launch of the battleship "Tirpitz" at that date and place. To its reverse, a horizontal pin-back device is crimped unto a circular plate, beneath which is embossed an RZM, "Reichszeugmeisterei" (National-material-control-office), logo and "M1/35," the manufacturer’s code for Wachtler & Lange of Mittweida.
