N012181 NSKOV VISOR CAP. (NSKOV Schirmmütze)

BACKGROUND: The NSKOV, "National Sozialistische Kriegsopferversorung" (National Socialist War-disabled-support [Organization]), was formed in 1930 and institutionalized in 1933, as an associated society assisting NSDAP party members who had become disabled as a result of war injuries.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Deep navy blue wool construction visor cap. The cap features a one-piece circular crown, a body with seams to each of its cardinal points, a one-piece center band whose vertical seam is to the reverse, and a blackened leather visor. Fixed to the forward seam line of the body is a, 1940-45 pattern, NSKOV eagle which approximately 47mm square, in the form of a stylized eagle with down-swept wings, clutching "NSKOV" in its talons, and with that organization’s emblem superimposed to its breast. The emblem is comprised of a black mobile swastika within a circle bordered in red, the circle set against a black Iron Cross, and the Iron Cross set against a vertical sword, which has an oval oak leaf wreath surrounding it. Original cockade is present. The black rayon center band features alternating, machine embroidered Oakleaf pattern. Fixed by the black painted buttons positioned over each ear is a twisted black chincord. The visor has blackened canvas reinforcing stitched along its edge. The interior of the cap is fully lined in mid-blue ribbed rayon, and features a tan leather sweatband. A clear, celluloid sweat diamond is sewn to the interior crown. The cap is in overall very nice condition. Size marked 56. Nice!
