N011576 HAPAG SS "COBRA" CAP TALLEY.

BACKGROUND: Originally launched on January 14, 1926, she was used as a cruise line ship sailing from Hamburg, Cuxhaven, Helgoland and Sylt. Her first voyage was on May 16, 1926 from Hamburg to Helgoland. She cold carry 1919 passengers and was known as the "Swan of the North Sea." After the invasion of Germany into Poland, in 1939, the Cobra was requisitioned and refitted by the Navy for minelayer and was armed with a pair of 88mm guns. In 1942, while in the shipyard at Schiedam, the Netherlands, the Cobra was bombed during a British air raid, when she sank, losing four of her crew members.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A 34mm x 90cm black rayon cap tally with machine embroidered HAPAG logo and flag. Very nice clean condition.
