N008158 VDA ARTWORK POSTCARD. (Postkarte)
A 4 1/8" x 5 5/8", printed cardstock postcard, whose obverse features a color reproduction of a painting, by Wolfgang Willrich, of, as is indicated to the reverse, the "Führerin der deutschen Frauen in Rumänien" (Leader [of] the german Women in Romania). Indiscernible, pseudo-runic script may be seen to the upper left of the portrait, and the artist’s distinctive signature is to its upper right. To the reverse, "Deutscher Blutadel in aller Welt" (German Blood-nobility in all-of [the] World), no doubt the title of the series to which the portrait to the obverse belongs, is printed above the aforementioned title of the portrait itself. Beneath these titles is a handwritten note, in ink and in Sütterlin script, over which is a partial "Feldpost" (Field-post) ink stamp, in red. Dividing the two halves of the reverse is a vertical line with the publisher’s name and address printed to it, to the base of which is a VDA, "Volksbund für das Deutschtum im Ausland" (Peoples’-league for the German-heritage in-the Foreign-countries), logo. The VDA was originally a pre-war organization formed to assist German nationals living abroad, which during the Third Reich era was taken over by the NSDAP and placed under the jurisdiction of the SS. To the horizontal lines printed to the right half of the reverse is handwritten the address of a "Kapitänleutnant" (a Captain in the Navy), above and alongside of which are more "Feldpost" ink stamps, in black. Pencil annotations may also be seen to the upper right of the reverse. The postcard is very lightly age yellowed, and has subtle creases to each of its corners, but is otherwise in excellent condition, with all of its colors still bright.
