N002991 DJ GROUP "Wieland" PENNANT.
BACKGROUND:
The DJ, "Deutsche Jungvolk" (German Youth), originated in Vienna, Austria in 1929, and was eventually to become the young branch of the HJ; for boys from 10 to 14 years old. The Sig-rune first became associated with the DJ on November 9th 1929, the sixth anniversary of the failed Beer Hall Putsch, when the Gauleiter of Vienna presented them with their first official flag, consisting of a black field with a central, silver Sig-rune. The Sig-rune was afterward adopted as the official emblem of the DJ.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Early, 35cm x 74cm triangular, double sided, multi-piece cotton construction pennant. Pennant features a black cotton field with white Sigrune machine sewn to one side. White side has the embroidered gruppe name "Wieland" in red thread. Comes with one attachment clip that has fallen off. Shows the expected age and period use. Nice.
