BACKGROUND: Introduced in January of 1939, the special lettered cufftitle was worn by RAD personal working on defensive positions in the Siegfried line. The cufftitles were produced in both officer and enlisted versions. The various letters used denoted different regions, (S) Saar, (R) Rhein, (T) Teir, etc. The cufftitle was withdrawn from service sometime after April of 1941.

Machine woven to the top of its rayon base, in white threads, is "RADJ" within an inverted triangle, "G.& W." beneath it, and "Ges." and "Gesch.," for "Gesetzlich Geschützt" (By-law Protected), to either side of it.
