BACKGROUND: Fascism advocates authoritarian, single party rule as the only solution for socioeconomic problems of society. After WWI, when political parties throughout Europe were promising to restore health, moral order and a sense of purpose, Fascism became a major political force. In 1921, the first Fascist party was founded by Benito Mussolini. In the 1920's and 1930's the fascist party promised youth, not only jobs and an education, but to be part of a movement that would purify a nation. The G.I.L. (Gioventu Italiana de Littorio") was formed in 1937 through recruitment done by MVSN members. The youth, through sports and pre-military drilling that were taught through elementary and middle schools, was used to perpetuate the idealology of the MVSN.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A 5.5cm x 3cm cap badge features the "bundle of sticks", axe, sword and shield that has the letters G.I.L, A loop to both the top and bottom allow the badge to be sewn onto the cap.
