C082487 U.S. WWI 316TH INFANTRY REGIMENT SERGEANT’S UNIFORM GROUPING.

A grouping that consists of garrison cap, tunic, trousers, wool puttees and book on the 316th Infantry Regiment. The garrison cap has a brass "U.S." badge to the left wearing side. A manufacture tag for"Frank & Dunn" with a date of "Sept. 9, 1918" and a size of "6 7/8" is attached to the interior. The cap does not appear to have been issued or used, but does show moderate/heavy mothing, tracking and a sewn repair. The high quality, olive drab, M1912 wool whipcord tunic, with a stand-up collar fastened by two hooks and eyes. To the right side of the stand-up collar is a bronze disk with "U.S." embossed against a cross-hatched background that is mounted to its reverse by a screw-back post. To the left side of the collar is a disk in the same material and dimensions, upon which is embossed the insignia for 316TH Infantry Regiment Company "D" that is also mounted to its reverse by a screw-back post. The four front patch pockets have button down scalloped flaps. The five large front closure buttons, and the four small pocket and two small shoulder strap buttons, are all embossed with an American eagle. Integral button shoulder straps are also present. There are three overseas stripes on the right sleeve representing 18 months of overseas service, while a wound stripe (for gas casualty) is o the left sleeve. Attached to the right wearing breast pocket is a brass whistle, while the left wearing breast pocket has "Marksman" award badge. The interior is fully lined with a slash breast pocket. The chest measures approximately 36". Included are a pair of coarse khaki wool breeches with five, metal alloy dish buttons marked "U.S. Army" to the front. The legs taper just below the reinforced knee where ten pair of metal grommets with cotton cord provide a secure fit. A small watch fob pocket is situated to the right side of the waistband and as well two front and two rear pockets are also present. The trousers are unlined with a waist that measures approximately 32" with a breech of 27". There are a few moth holes to the front. Included is a pair of khaki wool puttees with HBT tapes and a hardcover book titled "Regimental History of the 316th Infantry" with 110 pages.
