C081473 STYRIAN HEIMATBUND BADGE.

BACKGROUND: In 1941, upon German invasion into Yugoslavia, Croatia, Slovenia, there was a mass expulsion of Sloven citizens that were to be replaced by "Volkdeutsche". The Slovenes that were deported included Catholic priests, teachers, business leaders and other professions, leaving the remaining population to be demoralized and subjugated by Germany. To further the process of Germanization, the Carinthian Volksbund and the Styrian Heimatbund were established on 10/5/1941 where they were classified according to political and racial criteria. The classification ranged from "Friendly to Germans" "Strongly Anti-German", and racially from "Very Good" to "Unsuitable" ratings for the inclusion into the German community. Most joined to avoid expulsion and the expropriation of the possessions. In lower Styria, both organizations enrolled men from the age of 18-45 into the Wehrmannschaft and the Deutsche Jugend.
