C077981 PRE-1914 "97TH REGIMENT ALGONQUIN RIFLES" COLLAR BADGE.

The regiment was re-designated in 1903 from the 97th Regiment of Rifles. They sent volunteers to South Africa and during WWI sent 12 officers and 251 other ranks. This pickled brass cap badge measures approximately 4cm x 3.5 cm showing the "97" with branches of maple leaves to either side and a Kings Crown to the top. On ribbons on the bottom is "Algonquin" and "Rifles." The back is a mirror image of the front with two lugs and a cotter pin. Marked J.R. Gaunt London to the reverse.
