BACKGROUND:
At thebeginning of September 1939, the Canadian soldier lookedremarkably like his counter part from 1918, wearing the 1914-18pattern khaki service dress and the 1908-pattern web equipment.It was in September 1939 that the Canadian Army officiallyadopted the battle dress that had just been approved for use bythe British in March 1939 and the first new uniforms arrived thelast week of October. At first, Canadian troops embarking toGreat Britain, were completely clothed in Canadian madebattledress and upon arrival were then issued British steelhelmets and modern 1937-pattern webbing. Canadian individualequipment was copied directly from the British 1937-pattern webequipment with manufacture starting at the beginning of 1940 andmass distribution began in October of the same year. TheCanadian equipment differed its British equivalent by its yellowcoloring and the brown paint used to cover the metal parts.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Inglis-Browning holster. Tan/khakiweb, semi rigid construction, with brass fittings. Thetan-colored webbed canvas holster has a fold over top flap with pull-through web closure. The edges are reinforced withadditional stitched on webbing. Sewn to the reverse is a piece of webbing that has been folded over to create loops through which two, brass belt hooks have been inserted. Stamped in blackink to the interior top flap is "Z.L.&T.L.td.1945 ,"and the "C-broad arrow".
