C058581 FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION PHOTOGRAPH.

A 17.5cm x 11.5cm photograph of French Foreign Legionnaires on parade in Algeria. An unidentified Foreign Legion company in dress uniform, with one platoon wearing the legendary Kepi Blanc (white kepi) of the Foreign Legion. The photograph belonged to a German Legionnaire named Günther Hauser, with his name and the inscription “30.4.62 Mascara Algerie” in ink on the reverse.  Mascara (Arabic: معسكر‎) is the capital city of Mascara Province in northwestern Algeria. There was an important French garrison there during colonial times. It has about 150,000 inhabitants today (2008 estimate).  Interesting souvenir of a German soldier enlisted in the Foreign Legion after WW2.
