C053585 FRENCH INDOCHINA (VIETNAM) NAVY COMMANDO CAP CIRCA 1953.

The French Navy Commandos (Marine Commando Nord Vietnam) were a forerunner of the U.S. Navy SEALs, conducting commando operations in support of the French war to retain France’s colony of Vietnam 1945-1955.The cap is a standard French Navy sailors cap from the 1945-1955 period with a leather sweatband and dark blue wool body with the French Navy anchor insignia on the front worked in gold bullion. The cap has the removable summer/tropical areas white cotton cover and the removable (for laundering of the white cover) traditional red pompom and side cords, which are affixed under loops on the left and right sides. This cap has the ultra-rare "Marine Indochine" cap tally and on the front of the cap, the rare Marine Commando Nord Vietnam unit badge is mounted. A very rare headdress in excellent condition.
