C050575 WWII BRITISH INDIAN ARMY KULLAH

Khaki cap worn by Muslim troops in the Indian Army, which a turban would be wrapped around. Different units of Indian soldiers would wrap these Kullahs with their own unit’s distinctive style of pagri (turban cloth or hat band). In the North West border and the Punjab the 'kullah' was often accompanied by a 'lungi', a long and narrow piece of cotton cloth that is wrapped around the 'kullah' to make a turban. One end of the 'lungi' makes the 'shamla', which is like a peacock's crest and the other end forms a tail, that hangs loosely at the back.. The kullah is broad arrow marked and dated for 1943. The kullah measures approximately 22cm tall with four reinforced stitched grommet holes to the point.
