BACKGROUND
: In 1930 the MVSN started recruiting members from the fascist youth organization and formed them into the GIL, (Gioventu Italiana del Littorio) in 1937,based on age. GIL members were obligated to wear this badge when in civilian clothing.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: 26mm stamped oval, alloy badge with a gilt wash and yellow and deep red enamel work. Gilt wash shows age dulling, and enamel is fully intact. Badge features a gilt washed circular shield and broad sword superimposed on a fasces, to bottom. Badge is divided on a diagonal with yellow to left, deep red to right, with raised gilt script GIL. Large stylized "M" to center. Button hole lug to reverse. Maker marked and script to reverse.
