C045586 BRITISH SERVICE DRESS CAP NAMED "Lieutenant Colonel J.A.C. Somerville".
BACKGROUND: Lieutentant Colonel Service Dress Cap named to John Arthur Coghill Somerville, who served as a Military attache in Japan and Korea from 1911-1914 and agin in 1915-1918. He was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Third Class. He was also the brother of Admiral Henry Boyle Townsehend Somerville who was killed on March 24, 1936 by the IRA. He was also the brother of Edith Somerville.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A visor cap with a stiffened, one-piece crown, four-piece body with seams at each of its cardinal points, center band (in red), and visor, all in olive drab wool. Nice bullion cap badge to the front. Four painted metal grommets are to the rear of the cap under the crown. A pair of brass King George V chin strap buttons are to each side of the cap keeping the black leather chin strap in place. A white label under the lining reads "Somerville, J.A.C. 14/15/18 7 3/8". A stamped manufacture mark for "Hawks & Co. Ltd., 1 Saville Row, W. Picadilly" is present under the sweatshield. A very nice clean cap.
