BACKGROUND: Was introduced to accompany the Lebel Model 1886 rifle that was in used from 1887-1940. Due to the shape of the bayonet, it was optimal for penetrating thick clothing and leather and because it was such a good stabbing/thrusting weapon, the epeé was often cut down into a stiletto for use in trench warfare. The French soldier’s dubbed this bayonet "Rosalie" after a popular song by Theodore Botrel.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A 52cm long 4 edge blade with muzzle ring, press-catch locking mechanism and a scabbard measuring 53cm long with a rounded ball tip with hole to allow for the release of water. Markings are present. The blade is oiled and in very nice condition. The scabbard shows some wear to the surface and a pair of gouges to the surface.
