C042691 BRITISH MKII PARATROOPERS HELMET.

BACKGROUND: The Airborne, being impressed with the MKI dispatch rider helmet and the same shell being used by the armoured corps decided to drop their fiber production helmet and to use the same shell to produce their MKII helmet in 1943.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Its exterior is painted in rough-textured olive drab. To the interior, its leather and webbed liner are fully intact, with a thick felt padding ringing the inside edge of the helmet, with a wider portion to the rear to protect the neck. There are four khaki/tan HBT web straps, with a tie string, is to the interior crown for fit adjustment. Its natural leather sweatband is stamped "BMB" (Briggs Motor Bodies Ltd) being the manufacturer's initials, and "7" within a shield, indicating the size and "1943" indicating the date of manufacture. The three point, early leather chinstrap and chin cup is complete. The two extra holes at the back of the helmet indicate a late 1940's or early 1950's Australian conversion of an original WW2 helmet for post war usage. Perfect for living history re enactment, film industry or to fill a hole in a collection until you can obtain and untouched original.
