C042189 NEW ZEALAND "ONWARD" CAP BADGE.

BACKGROUND: New Zealand, in 1911, formed a part-time national militia. The New Zealand Expeditionary Force joined with the Australian Imperial Force and sent to Egypt to train in British weapons. They later amalgamated to form the "Australian & New Zealand Army Corps" (ANZAC). During World War I, the ANZAC joined forces with joint British Empire and French forces to capture the Ottoman Capital of Constantinople and secure a sea route to Russia. This was know as the "Gallipoli Campaign". Unfortunately, the battle failed with heavy casualties.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A brass cap badge with "NZ" central to a Kings Crown intersecting fern leaves to either side. To the bottom on a scroll is "Onward." The badge is approximately 3.5cm x 4.5cm with two lugs in tact on the reverse. The reverse is a mirror representation of the front. Some age darkening. Nice example.
