C041586 C.W.A.C. BADGE.
BACKGROUND: On August 13, 1941, to release men from non-combatant roles in the Canadian Armed Forces and to expand the war effort, the Canadian Women’s Auxillary Corps was formed. It was not until March 1942 saw the induction into the Canadian Army as the C.W.A.C. Their roles were to include secretaries, mechanics, cooks, etc. Most women served in Canada, but some served overseas. The C.W.A.C. was abolished in 1964 when women were fully integrated in the Canadian Armed Forces.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A 3cm x 2cm badge with hinge pin to the reverse that shows the right facing profile of Athena . The badge is maker marked for "Scully Ltd. Montreal". It comes housed in a "Hawkes & Co. Ltd. London" hinged case that measures approximately 5.5cm x 5.5cm square pebble box.
