C041191 U.S.M.C. CANTEEN.

A one quart capacity canteen with its cup and olive drab canvas cover. The aluminum canteen is slightly concave to its reverse and retains its aluminum screw cap, attached between its top and an alloy collar around the neck by a short alloy chain. A brazing line may be seen running along both sides and underneath the canteen. "U.S.," "Vollrath 1943". An aluminum cup, with an integral, hinged, spring steel handle rivetted to its obverse, seats unto the base of the canteen. The cup has a raised lip along its uppermost edges, and its "U"-shaped handle, in storage, folds underneath the cup, following its contours. When the handle is folded out, forming an inverted "L," it is fixed by the floating toggle along its handle fitting under dual flanges above where its hinge is rivetted to the cup. "U.S.," "A.G.M. Co. 1942" is stamped to its base. The cup fits very tightly into the cover. Its light olive drab canvas cover has two extended flaps rising from the back of its open top, each of which have a stud-holed snap which, after the flaps cross over one another, mates with a corresponding stud to the upper body of the cover. The snaps and studs are of blackened brass.
