BACKGROUND:
The 29th Battalion (Vancouver), CEF was an infantry battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the Great War. Known as "Tobin's Tigers", the battalion was authorized on 7 November 1914 and embarked for Britain on 20 May 1915. It disembarked in France on 17 September 1915, where it fought as part of the 6th Infantry Brigade, 2nd Canadian Division in France and Flanders until the end of the war. (WiKi)PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Khaki, private purchase tunic featuring a four brass button front, lay down collar and integral, button shoulder straps. Two pips are to each shoulder strap that represent the rank of Lieutenant. Original blue wool 29th Battalion flashes to each sleeve. All original buttons, collar dogs and hand embroidered Canada flashes. Four overseas chevrons to the lower right sleeve and a Wound stripe to the right sleeve. A pleated, button scallop flap pocket is to each breast, as well as larger, straight flapped button hip pockets. Chest size is roughly a 34". Nice worn and used example showing the expected age and wear. Nice!
