C039194 CANADIAN NO. 4 MARK II COMBAT BAYONET & FROG.
BACKGROUND: There were four different bayonets made during the war, each one a simpler design of the same No 4 pattern, these were the Mk I, Mk II, Mk II* and the Mk III. The British No. 4 Mark II was a simplified version of the British No. 4 Mark I that eliminated the milled cruciform blade for a smooth steel spike that lowered the cost and sped up production. It started production in December 1941 and is the most common of the four patterns of bayonets.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: The bayonet is the form of an 20cm or 8" spike, tapered at its point, which widens and proceeds to one side at its other end where a circular muzzle socket and spring release catch may be seen. The "No 4 MK I" blued metal scabbard is in the form of a tapering tube, 21cm or 8 1/4" long, with a ball tip and a circular frog lug is near its throat. The khaki colored webbed canvas bayonet frog in the form of a vertical strap folded back and stitched upon itself to form a belt loop.
