C037088 DUTCH FEMALE LABOUR SERVICE BADGE.

BACKGROUND: The NAD, "Nederlandse Arbeids Dienst" (Dutch Labor Service), replaced, in May of 1941, the Dutch Reconstruction Service which was created immediately after the occupation, a year earlier, to employ demobilized Dutch soldiers. Men and women over the age of eighteen were compelled to serve for six months in the new organization, and volunteers for longer, although conscription was only applied to men, and only from 1943 onwards. The NAD was increasingly infiltrated by members of the Dutch NSB, "Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging" (National Socialist Movement), becoming openly collaborationist.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A 20mm badge with a hollow reverse that bears a spring pin. VERY RARE.
