C036293 MEMORIAL PLAQUE.

A bronze,12cm diameter, round plaque that has a relief of a lion in front of Britannia who holds laurel leaves with her left hand. She is wearing a classic war helmet. The inscription surrounding and framing the plaque states; He died for Freedom and Honor. In a rectangle on the right side the name of the gentlemen is engraved. In this case it is "Robert Graham Scott". There are flower details, as well as, dolphins. The designers initials of "E. CR.P" for Edward Carter Preston appear above the right paw of the lion. To the reverse are the initials "WA" within a circle that represents the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich (1920). The plaque comes with the original heavy brown, cardstock envelope and a partial ivory envelope that has printed to it "463182 Victoria B.C. "Found in Nanaimo B.C.". Mr. Scott enlisted with the 62nd Overseas Battalion on August 25, 1915". He was killed in action at the trenches at Courcelette. He died on September 22, 1916 at the age of 19 while serving with the 7th Battalion CEF. Attached is a link for his Attestation papers and his Commonwealth War Grave information. Of Note: These plaques were also known as "The Deadman’s Penny" or "Widow’s Penny".
