The Balmoral Bonnet, which is known as the Tam o'Shanter, originated in 1915, as a replacement for the Glengarry, to be worn by Scottish troops in combat. A khaki wool bonnet comprised of a crown with a tan coloured wool Touri (pom-pom) to its center, a body with seams to each side and the rear, a pair of metal grommets are to the rear, but no string. A cap badge for the "48th Highlanders" is attached via lugs and cotter pin on a tartan backing that does not belong to the 48th Highlanders. The interior is un-lined and not marked.
