Black wool South Vietnamese Navy beret with the insignia of River Patrol Group 51 (Giang Doan 51 Tuan Tham) original period sewn to the side. Same man’s shoulder patch with the same insignia made in South Vietnam. The South Vietnamese river patrol groups were the counterpart of the U.S. Navy riverine "Brown Water" patrol forces which patrolled the Mekong Delta waterways for Viet Cong infiltration. Original artifacts from this small part of the South Vietnamese Navy are 100 times rarer than the scarce US Navy riverine items.
