BACKGROUND:
The Norwegian "Nasjonal Samling" (National Unity) party instituted a compulsory labor service, based on the German "Reichsarbeitsdienst" (National-labor-service), in September of 1940. It was designated "Arbeids-Tjensten" (Labor Service), and they wore uniforms similar to those previously worn by the Norwegian army, with rank indicated on the shoulder boards and collar tabs.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A machine embroidered 8cm diameter badge of a red herring bone twill background that has embroidered, in yellow, the letters "A" & "T" (Arbeids-Tjensten) and a sprig of barley to its center.
