C033092 CANADIAN MK.I DISPATCH RIDER'S HELMET.
Canadian No.3 Mk.I Dispatch Riders’ Helmet (British made example) was originally introduced in October of 1942. Its exterior is painted in olive drab, with an unknown formation sign to the front, with a pair of chevrons to each side and a 1st Canadian Infantry Division formation sign to the rear. To the interior, its leather and webbed liner are fully intact, with a thick sponge foam padding ringing the inside edge of the helmet, which is particularly built up in the front. Four khaki/tan HBT web straps, with a tie string, is to the interior crown for fit adjustment. Its natural leather sweatband is stamped "44," for the year of supply, "BS" (within a circle), being the manufacturer’s initials, and "7," indicating the size. The heavy dark brown leather chinstrap features thirteen buckling holes, is stitched to one side, passes through an age darkened alloy buckle with a heavily surface spotted single prong stitched to the other side, and terminates with a brown-painted alloy snap closure. An extended flap for the chin runs under the chinstrap. The leather to which the chinstrap and flap is attached is lined with brown felt and features a seven-holed opening over each ear and a four double grommet adjusting tie slash, with an olive drab tie, to the back. Additional white felt flaps would have been to the interior over each ear, of which only their stitching remains. The sweatband, and the remainder of the liner, is in very good condition. Shell is marked with a faint manufacture mark and a ‘44 date. Included, are a pair of U.S. 1944 Polaroid goggles.
