C030870 NSB COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL.

BACKGROUND: The Dutch Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging (National Socialist Movement) formed in 1931 under the leadership of Aaton Mussert. Originally, the party based itself on Italian fascism and German national socialism until 1936 when the idealology changed under the influence of Meinoud Rost van Tonnengen. They instituted its own para-military formation, based on the German Allgemeine SS, in September 1940. The NSB WA ( Weer Afdeelingen defense Section) held marches from 1933-1942 and distributed commemorative medals to those who participated. Metal numerical slip ons were given for those who participated in more than one march.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A 4cm diameter medal which depicts the likeness of Antoon Mussert, leader of the NSB to the front while the reverse has "WA Marcheert" "Kertmarsch 1940 "Hou Zee" which translates to "WA Marches - Christmas March 1942 - Keep Marching." The medal shows moderate wear and usage. Ring and ribbon are missing.
