C030589 "THE BLACK WATCH R.H.R. OF CANADA" SHOULDER FLASH.
BACKGROUND: The Black Watch Royal Highland Regiment is noted to being the oldest highland regiment in Canada, has served since January 31, 1862 in Montreal as the 5th Battalion, Volunteer Militia Rifles of Canada. During the Civil War, Canada became concerned with the American military strength. This brought about six Montreal Scottish chieftains to raise the 5th. The Black Watch served in Newfoundland from June 1940 to August 1940 to which they traveled to England for several years of training. The Black Watch was also attached to the Royal Regiment of Canada during the Dieppe raid. The Battalion landed in Normandy in July 1944 and served until VE Day in May 1945. They suffered more casualties than any other Canadian Infantry Battalion in Northwest Europe.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A single blue melton flash that is machine embroidered in red thread "The Black Watch" atop "R.H.R." and "Of Canada". They are complete with the original backings. British manufactured.
