BACKGROUND: Identity discs (or commonly known as dog tags) were made from compressed fiber and were to be worn by all ranks at all times with the green eight sided disc from atop a circular red disc that is suspended by one string. Each disc must indicate army number, rank, name, initials, religion and nationality (CDN-Canadian). In event of death, the green eight sided disc was buried with the body. A spare green disc was always placed in the gas mask bag.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: An eight sided disc measuring approximately 3.5cm x 4cm with a red disc measuring 3.5cm in diameter suspended from a hemp cord. The disc belongs to "GNR R.C. FLEMING", army number F. 75968 and a member of the United Church of Canada.
