C029691 U.S. VIETNAM WAR INFANTRY MARINE’S PHOTO ALBUM.
An EXCEPTIONAL U.S. Vietnam War Infantry Marine’s Photo Album from the very early years of the war. All photos date from 1966 and 1967 (the dates printed on the edges of most at time of developing). The first battalion of Marines went ashore at Danang in the summer of 1965. Named and identified owner "Arthur Chapple" who was a Marine Lance Corporal. Researchable. Dozens of superb colour and black and white photos show Marines on patrol in jungle, Marines with weapons, and close up portraits of every man in his Rifle Squad. Some great period content as well as some rear rest area "pin-ups" and a visit to a Buddhist shrine. In original period Vietnam-made black lacquer hardcover album secured with original yellow and red (the colours of the South Vietnam flag). Three photos are captioned on the reverse and the captions have been affixed with post-it notes by me to those photos to save wear and tear on the mountings and photos, which can be fragile after 60 years. Some loose period clippings and souvenirs still inside. This is one of the best Vietnam War Marine Corps photo albums I have ever seen, just exceptional content and condition, it is a museum-quality artifact of the war. Measures 32cm x 22cm.
