C028788 CANADIAN WWI MEMORIAL CROSS.
The Cross, which is 4cm high by 3cm wide, is silver, suspended medal by a purple ribbon (replaced) that is approximately 22cm long and 23mm wide. At the top of the cross there is a relief of a crown. At the foot, and at the center, it is framed by a wreath of laurel, the royal cipher "GVIR" Is engraved. The reverse is also marked "Sterling". The number, rank and name of the soldiers commemorated is engraved on the back of the cross. This particular cross commemorates Private H. Johnstone, who was a Rifleman in the 83rd & 24th Battalion CEF. He died on August 17, 1917. His service number is 171134. He is buried at the Vimy Memorial.
